Rodney A. Butler is serving his 8th year as Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and 14th year on its Tribal Council. Chairman Butler was recently appointed Interim CEO for Foxwoods Resort Casino—the first Native American casino in existence, and one of the world’s largest. During his tenure on Tribal Council, Butler also served as its Treasurer, and oversaw the Tribe’s Finance, Housing and Judicial Committees.
A recent recipient of the Native American Finance Officers Association Tribal Leader of the Year award (2017), Chairman Butler holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Connecticut, where he played defensive back for UCONN Huskies Football. Chairman Butler is a founding trustee of the Mashantucket (Western) Pequot Tribe Endowment Trust. He also chairs the board of directors for United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, and serves on the boards of trustees for both Roger Williams University and the Mystic Aquarium.
Prior to public service, Mr. Butler worked in the Finance department at Foxwoods Resort Casino. He later became Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Business Advisory Board; an executive body responsible for overseeing the Tribe’s non-gaming businesses and commercial properties. Mr. Butler was actively involved in several resort expansions at Foxwoods and led a tribal community housing development project. Chairman Butler’s focus is to ensure long-term stability for his Tribe and its businesses.
