Brendan Crighton is the State Senator for the 3rd Essex District, serving the City of Lynn and Towns of Lynnfield, Marblehead, Nahant, Saugus and Swampscott.

Born and raised in Lynn, Brendan comes from a long line of Lynn residents steeped with a strong sense of community involvement. His maternal grandfather worked at the GE factory, his paternal grandfather fought in World War II earning a Purple Heart, and both his grandmothers worked full time while raising their families. Brendan’s mom currently works as a physical therapist, his dad and brother are both pharmacists and his sister and sister-in-law are school teachers.

Growing up, Brendan attended public schools in Lynn K-12. At Lynn Classical, he played baseball, basketball, track and served as captain of the football team. He went on to play football at Colby College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government. Brendan is also a graduate of Suffolk University, where he received his Masters of Public Administration.

After college Brendan went to work as an aide to State Senator Thomas McGee, eventually serving as Chief of Staff. It was during this time that Brendan truly honed his desire to serve by winning a seat as Ward 5 City Councilor in Lynn. After two terms as a Ward Councilor, Brendan was elected and served a full term as a Councilor at Large. In 2014, Brendan was elected to the House of Representatives, where he served for three years.

In 2018, Brendan was elected to the State Senate. He currently serves as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing, Vice Chair on the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, and a member of Senate Committee on Personnel and Administration, the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities, Joint Committee on Election Laws, Joint committee on Mental Health, Substance Use and Recovery, and the Joint Committee on Public Health. Brendan and his wife Andrea are homeowners in Lynn, where they reside with their son Nathaniel.
